On June 2, 1991, the first regular Intercity-Express (known as ‘ICE’) train left Hamburg-Altona at 5:53 a.m. for its destination Munich. In the opposite direction, the train left Munich at 6:41 a.m. The German network of express trains has its origins in the SVT connections of the 1930s - a groundbreaking infrastructure that only had been possible because of the engines which had been supplied by Maybach.

2002 saw the relaunch of Maybach cars by Mercedes-Benz (Daimler AG) which were produced to the highest standards. Just like the Maybach cars from the years between 1921 and 1941 the new sub-brand aimed at bringing together technical excellence and high-end luxury. While most of the models define new classics, some of the designs dare to speculate what the future will bring: The Vision 6 is an EV spanning six meters in length and bridging the gap between past and present in its design. These new, innovative Mercedes-Maybach products embody the spirits of Wilhelm and Karl Maybach: to take part in innovation wherever it can take mobility to a new level.

Wilhelm Maybach had made the Mercedes era possible by his groundbreaking designs and inventions that came to use in the first Mercedes that later defined the Simplex series. This heritage is honored by the Vision Simplex, a speculative study by Mercedes-Benz that uses electric propulsion – a technology and paradigm shift that Wilhelm and Karl Maybach surely would be shaping were they active today.
